The Yale of Beaufort comes to Queen Elizabeth II through the mother of King Henry VII, Lady Margaret Beaufort. The sole heiress of John Beaufort, Duke of Somerset, Lady Margaret’s Yale heraldic beast followed her only son, Henry, to the throne of England when he defeated King Richard III of the House of York to end the Wars of the Roses. Henry’s victory paved the way for his crowning as King Henry VII, founder of the Tudor dynasty.

The NGC assigns a Mint State 69 certification to coins with full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws at this certification level include minuscule contact marks or hairlines.

The included Early Release label found in the slab indicates the timing of the coin’s arrival for grading with the NGC. To earn the ER label, coins must arrive within 30 days of their original release date from the Royal Mint.

Her seal included a quartered shield of white and blue fields, with the Yale supporting the shield. The Yale is a mythical beast often depicted as a goat or antelope with horns on its head and boar tusks on its snout.
