The Dragon and Tiger design are one of many yin-and-yang designs featuring the dragon from the Perth Mint. The dragon is China’s most revered mythical creature and is said to embody power, wealth, and good luck. On the reverse of the 2018 1 oz Australian Dragon and Tiger Silver Coin is the image of a dragon and tiger circling a flaming pearl. The two beasts appear in this design with natural balance and interdependence. The tiger represents the female energy of yin, while the dragon represents the male or yang.

The obverse side of the 2018 Australian Dragon and Tiger Silver Coin includes the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. In this fourth-generation design, Ian Rank-Broadley captures the Queen around the age of 70 in a right-profile portrait. This design was originally created in 1998 for use on coins from the Royal Mint of England.
