This modern version of the emblem was designed by John Mercanti in 1986 and features a powerful bald eagle with the national shield, arrows of war, and olive branch of peace.

American Silver Eagle coins are predominantly struck by the West Point Mint. In recent years, the bullion coin has returned to production at the San Francisco Mint as well. Bullion versions of the American Silver Eagle do not feature mint marks.
