The Australian Silver Emu coin series debuted in 2018 and follows the same standards of production found in the Silver Kookaburra, Silver Koala, Silver Kangaroo, and many other Perth Mint Australian silver coins. Each one has .9999 pure silver content and offers up a distinctive design element with each changing year. The proof versions of the coin come in much lower mintages to enhance collectability.

Emus are the second-largest bird of their kind in the world behind only their cousin, the ostrich. The range of emus in Australia covers the entirety of the mainland and used to include Tasmania, Kangaroo Island, and King Island.

On the reverse side of 2019 1 oz Proof Australian Silver Emu Coins is a depiction of two emus standing near a dry creek bed in the Outback. The birds are unique in that the female of the species lays the eggs, but it is the male that sits with the eggs to provide incubation. Eggs typically hatch after eight weeks and it is the male who provides nurturing for the young as they grow up.

The obverse side of 2019 Proof Australian Silver Emu Coins includes an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the latest effigy of Her Majesty for Australian coins, the sixth in total, and was designed based on Jody Clark’s fifth-generation image for the Royal Mint of England. It includes the Queen’s neckline and shoulders in the portrait, something not found on Australian coins since 1966.
