Since its 1986 introduction, the Perth Mint has issued the coins in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1 Kilo weights. On the obverse of 2019 Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins is the latest effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen’s effigy here is the sixth to feature on Australian coins during her reign and is based on the fifth-generation design created by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint of England. This right-profile portrait captures more of the Queen than Clark’s British design, making it the first since the 1960s to show the Queen’s neckline and shoulders. She wears the Royal Diadem crown and a Victorian coronation necklace.

The reverse of 2019 1/4 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins features the image of a kangaroo in left-profile relief. The kangaroo stands still on a mound of dirt with stylized trees in the background that curve with the outer edge of the design field.
