The date mark remains significant to the program and is a milestone achievement, but the 1/4 oz coin debuted in November 1982 along with the 1/10 oz coin. That year was also significant for the boost in purity from the initial .999 content to .9999 content.

On the obverse side of 2019 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins is Queen Elizabeth II. This right-profile portrait of Her Majesty was developed in 2002 by Susanna Blunt and released on Canadian coinage in 2003. This is the fourth-generation design used on Canadian coins and the first since Her Majesty’s father, King George VI, to feature a monarch without a crown.
