Since its first introduction in 1986, the American silver eagle coin has featured the iconic  Adolph Weinman design on its obverse. Weinman’s depiction of Liberty was created in 1916 and was originally used on the US half dollar through 1947.

The 1991-S Proof American Silver Eagle’s obverse features Walking Liberty with the LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST inscriptions. The coin’s mint year is also featured. The image of Liberty is a full-length relief in left-profile orientation that depicts Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag draped around her figure.

On the reverse of the 1991-S 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle is the image of the heraldic eagle, a seal modernized in 1986 by John Mercanti.  The coin’s reverse features the bald eagle with a shield and 13 five-pointed stars. The reverse contains the following inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1OZ. FINE  SILVER and ONE DOLLAR.”
