American Gold Eagle coins are the official gold bullion product of the United States. Each year, the United States Mint produces the coin in three versions, with four weights available in each version. The American Gold Eagle has been phased in in stages over its history. The bullion and proof coin were available first, with all four weights in the bullion version and only a 1 oz for the proof in 1986.

Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic Lady Liberty image is featured on the obverse. Originally designed in 1905, his image of Liberty striding confidently forward into an unknown future has been refined and updated for use on the American Gold Eagle.
