The obverse of the 1 oz Proof American Western Skulls Old Sheriff Silver Round features the image of a rough-and-tumble sheriff ready to throw down with any outlaws threatening the safety of peace-loving citizens in the Old West. The skeletal figure of the sheriff wears a large cowboy hat that proudly displays his badge in the center. A pair of rifles similar to a Henry repeater cross below the skull, with the word “Liberty” stretched above and a year of issue for the round below.

Sheriffs were the highest ranking lawmen in any given county in the Wild West. Elected officials, their jurisdiction extended throughout a county and set them above local marshals and deputies on the law enforcement totem pole.

On the reverse of all American Western Skulls Old Sheriff rounds you’ll find a fitting take on the heraldic eagle of the United States. Known as the fried eagle, the traditional bald eagle is replaced by the skeletal frame of the bird. It is set behind the national shield holding an olive branch and arrows in its talons.
