The US penny has featured the bust of President Abraham Lincoln since 1909 on the 100^th anniversary of his birth. Augustus Saint-Gaudens was originally hired by the US Mint in 1905 to redesign five coins that President Theodore Roosevelt wanted to be redesigned and which did not require congressional approval.

Saint-Gaudens’ designs for the gold coins were eventually adapted for the Gold Eagle and Gold Double Eagle, but his cent design never gained traction. In January 1909, the Mint hired Victor David Brenner to design a bust of Abraham Lincoln for the penny. His right-profile bust of the 16^th President of the United States has been on the obverse of the penny for 110 years now.

The obverse of these 1 oz Colorized Domed American Legacy Lincoln Penny Silver Rounds features the right-profile bust of Lincoln created by Brennan. It is featured along with the inscriptions of “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” “1909” to mark the first year of issue, and “S” to represent the San Francisco Mint as the initial mint of origin.

All obverse fields on American Legacy Collection silver rounds are domed and offer 10 times the depth of visual brilliance and intricacy of detail that regular proof strikes deliver. In this release, gold colorization is added to the bust of Lincoln to create contrast between the bust and the background field of the round.

On the reverse of Colorized Domed American Legacy Lincoln Penny Silver Rounds is a depiction of Lincoln that matches the Brennan design. However, this side of the round has a sunken field and the portrait of Lincoln is in left-profile relief.
