The US Quarter is one of the longest-running denominations of US currency. The first quarter was struck in 1796 and the coins were intermittently produced from 1804 to 1807, 1815 to 1828, and consistently since 1831. The program has gone through just four different designs since 1831 that include the famed Seated Liberty design, the so-called Barber Coinage design, the Standing Liberty image, and the existing image of President George Washington.
