The US Half Dollar coin was produced in every year from 1794 to 2002. Though the US Mint no longer produces new half-dollar coins, the coins were once incredibly popular in circulation. Half Dollar silver coins from the US Mint had 90% silver content from 1794 to 1964. Coins produced from 1965 to 1970 had 40% silver content, and all coins from that date forward have the US Mint’s common cupro-nickel mixture for coin content.
