The Ultra-cameo, or UCAM, designation is specifically for proof coins with beautiful finishes. UCAM coins have strong, frosted matte finishes to the design elements that offer visual contrast to the deeply-mirrored, clear background field.

As for the Early Release designation, this is reserved for any certified coin that arrives at the NGC or an approved third-party depository within a set timeframe. To quality as an ER coin, these 2018 Proof Gold Eagles arrived for grading within 30 days of their initial release from the US Mint.

On the obverse of all 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins is the design of Liberty created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The famed Irish-American artist created this design originally in 1907 for use on the $20 Gold Double Eagle circulation coin from the United States Mint.

The reverse of the 2018 Proof American Gold Eagle coins features the bald eagle design created specifically for this series by Miley Busiek. Her design captures one eagle in flight over a nest that contains another adult eagle, as well as hatchlings. This side of the coins bears a mint mark from the West Point Mint of “W.”

Proof American Gold Eagle coins have much lower mintage figures than their bullion counterparts. In fact, for 2018 the United States Mint is establishing very low mintage limits for its Proof Gold Eagles. No more than 22,000 2018 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins will be struck, with few of them earning these prestigious certifications from the NGC.
