Each of the coins in the American Eagle Series from the United States Mint features similar design concepts, with varying details. However, each series has its own unique designs. The Gold Eagle features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic Liberty depiction created in 1907. This design appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933, and is considered to be the greatest coin design in American history.

On the obverse of American Gold Eagle coins is Saint-Gaudens’ image of Liberty. She is featured in full-length figure as she walks forward from the national capital of Washington DC. The US Capitol Building is visible at her feet, with her right hand holding a torch aloft while her left clutches an olive branch.

The reverse of 2018 ½ oz American Gold Eagle coins features a family of bald eagles. In this design, a male eagle flies over the nest holding an olive branch while a female eagle stands guard over the nest and hatchlings.

Your 2018 ½ oz American Gold Eagle has been graded Mint State 69 by the PCGS. Coins in MS69 condition have full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to miniscule contact marks or hairlines found only outside the primary focal areas.

First Strike, or FS, is a label and designation for coins received and graded in a particular timeframe. The coins must arrive at the PCGS within 30 days of the US Mint’s 2018 release date for American Gold Eagles.
