Each of the 2016-W Burnished American Silver Eagle coins offered today by JM Bullion are considered near-perfect specimens by the NGC. Coins with an MS69 grade have their full, original mint luster, but also feature a maximum of two minor detracting flaws, such as miniscule contact marks or blemishes.

Part of the Early Release Series, these American Silver Eagle coins were shipped to the NGC or an NGC-approved facility in sealed mint boxes from the US Mint. In order to qualify, these coins must arrive within the first 30 days of their release by the mint.

In 2006, on the 20th anniversary of the program, the US Mint released an all-new burnished version of the popular coin series. The burnished coins are struck multiple times under high pressure, much like the proof version. Unlike the proof version though, the burnished coins are struck on specially treated blanks and handled only by hand wearing gloves to prevent tarnish or any other damage to the coin.

On the obverse of each 2016-W Burnished American Silver Eagle coin is Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design. This depiction of Liberty is meant to represent the nation’s drive to consistently march toward a brighter future, as depicted by Liberty leading the nation forward with her right hand outstretched and the American flag draped over her shoulders.

The heraldic eagle of the United States graces the reverse of the coin. The reverse design comes from then-US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, who created the image in 1986 for this coin. A modern interpretation of a coining symbol used since 1794, it depicts the American bald eagle behind the national heraldic shield as it clutches arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other.
