The Burnished American Silver Eagle coin debuted in 2006 to help celebrate the 20^th anniversary of the coin collection. The Burnished American Silver Eagle coin is struck annually by the United States Mint as of 2006. The coins were not available in 2009 or 2010 as the US Mint redirected its silver bullion blanks to the production of the investment-grade version of the coin. Coins in the Burnished Silver Eagle range were available for two purchase options in 2013.

2013-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagle coins were offered for individual purchase throughout 2013 beginning in the month of May. The total mintage of 165,000 coins sold out by year’s end, but the coin was also available in the 2013 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set from the US Mint.

The 2013 Burnished American Silver Eagle coin hit an all-time low for mintage. The coins debuted in 2006 with 466,573 coins struck and peaked in 2007 when 621,333 coins were sold by the US Mint. The 221,981 coins in 2013 represent a low-water mark.

On the reverse of the Burnished American Silver Eagle coin is the heraldic eagle of the United States. First used in 1794 on the original American coins struck by the old Philadelphia Mint, this design was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti. He served as a US Mint Engraver at the Philadelphia Mint for decades and eventually served as the 12^th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 2006 until his retirement in 2010.

The obverse of the 2013-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagle coin bears the Walking Liberty design. Created in 1916, it featured on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin until 1947 when it was replaced by the portrait of Benjamin Franklin.
