The American Gold Eagle is America’s official gold bullion coin. The program was launched in 1986 following passage of the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. The coin borrows the design of one of America’s greatest coins from history, that of Lady Liberty, as designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. American Gold Eagle Coins are struck in a total of four weights each year. The bullion coin program includes a ¼ oz, ½ oz, and 1 oz coins in addition to the 1/10 oz. When the coins were first struck, the 1 oz coin was the most popular coins. As a result, mintage levels for the 1 oz coins were the highest. Over time, the 1/10 oz coin has emerged as an equal to the 1 oz coin in terms of popularity and mintage levels. Last year, demand for the 1/10 oz coin was so high that its mintage and sales exceeded that of all other coins, including the 1 oz.

These 2015 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Coins have a MS70 grade from the PCGS, indicating that each coin is considered perfectly struck by the mint. Each coin comes with a Gold Foil Label inside of its packaging that contains information about the coin’s grade, grading service, year of minting, face value, and even includes an individual serial number.

On the obverse side of each American Gold Eagle is the depiction of August Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty. Walking toward the viewer with the sun setting behind her and Washington DC at her feet, Lady Liberty holds a torch and olive branch. The reverse side coin features Miley Busiek’s image of a family of nesting eagles.

The United States Mint strikes the majority of American Gold Eagle coins at the West Point Mint. Only special-edition sets and mintages are done by other mints in the US Mint system.
