2013 5 oz ATB Fort McHenry Silver Coin MS69 (Varied Label, PCGS or NGC)

There are few places in America with greater historical significance than Fort McHenry. It was on this hallowed ground that a young America defended itself from attempts by the British Empire to reestablish a foothold in America. The battlement is featured on the reverse of the 2013 5 oz ATB Fort McHenry Silver Coin, available from JM Bullion.

Fort McHenry sits on the peninsula of Whetstone Point in Maryland, and defended the harbor of Baltimore during the War of 1812. As the American forces manning the fort defended a British Naval onslaught, Francis Scott Key watched in awe as the Americans held off the British bombardment. From his spot on a British Naval vessel, Key penned the “Star Spangled Banner,” which, of course, became the country’s national anthem.

The United States Mint’s America the Beautiful coin series features five new coins each year, with each one bearing unique reverse imagery that represents one of the nation’s monuments, moments, or places with historical significance. The Fort McHenry coin was the 19^th overall in the series, and fourth released in 2013.

On the reverse side is the image of bombs bursting in air over Fort McHenry, with the stars and stripes flying proudly above the ramparts of the base. Engravings include “Maryland,” “Fort McHenry,” and “E Pluribus Unum.” The obverse side bears the image of President George Washington in a left-profile bust.

Each of the coins available in this product listing have a grade of MS69. Coins in this condition still have their full, original luster, and a maximum of two blemishes, contact marks, or detracting flaws are visible on the coin. However, these flaws are not within the primary focal areas.
