Each 2013 1 oz Chinese Silver Panda Coin offered here is individually packaged in a protective capsule. The 2013 coin features a design that was not used in any other year, a distinctive hallmark of the Chinese Panda Series. In fact, only two date marks in the program’s history share the same design: 2001 and 2002.

When the Chinese Mint debuted the Silver Panda, it was originally offered only as a proof specimen. From 1983 to 1985, it was 27 Gram coin with 90% silver content. No Silver Pandas were issued in 1986, with a revamped proof offered in 1987 with 1 Troy oz of 92.5% silver content. After another hiatus in 1988, the Silver Panda returned in 1989 with 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver content as a BU specimen.

The obverse of 2013 Chinese Silver Panda comes with a depiction of three Giant Pandas. This year’s design includes a wall of bamboo in the background as the three pandas gather near a body of water. While two of the pandas look on, a third is leaning down to drink from the water, creating ripples on the otherwise calm pond.

On the reverse of 2013 1 oz Silver Panda Coins is the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This design was created in 1982 for the Gold Panda Series and has featured on all versions of the coin for more than four decades. The Hall is the central structure inside the Temple of Heaven Complex, a Taoist religious site in Beijing.
