The Proof American Gold Eagle has been struck every year since the coin’s introduction, except 2009, with a brilliant finish and visual appeal. American Gold Eagle coins were authorized for production following passage of the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. The coin series consists of three versions, with each version offering coins in four different weights: 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz. Each coin’s face value corresponds to its weight, with the exception of the ¼ oz coin.

On the obverse side of the coin is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty. Designed in 1908 by Saint-Gaudens, Lady Liberty was originally produced for use on the $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle.

The reverse side was designed by Miley Busiek in 1985 for use specifically on this coin program. Her image features a male bald eagle returning to its nest, where a female bald eagle is vigilantly guarding the nest and the hatchlings within.

Each of the coins available through this product listing is in perfect condition. A PCGS PR70 grade means a coin has its full, original luster, with no blemishes, contact marks, or detracting flaws of any kind. The deep-cameo finish identifies a coin with a strong, frosted design set and a deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
