The total duration of the Apollo 11 mission was 8 days, 3 hours, 18 minutes, and 35 seconds. On July 16, 1969, the Apollo 11 spacecraft lifted off from Merritt Island, Florida under the power of Saturn V rockets. Four days later, the Eagle landing module would approach the surface of the moon for mankind’s first-ever touchdown on a foreign celestial body.

Commander Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin were the only two men in the three-man crew to set foot on the surface of the moon. The duo spent a total of 21.5 hours on the surface of the moon, not stepping out of the lander until 6 hours after landing on the moon. When the time came, Neil Armstrong was the first man to take steps on the moon.
