The $1 Gold Coin was produced as circulating currency by the US Mint between 1849 and 1854, before being replaced by the type 2 coins. Each of these $1 Liberty Gold Coins contains .048375 troy ounces of .900 pure gold content and has been certified by either the NGC or PCGS as being in Mint State 65 condition. This means that every coin from this listing still has its original luster as well as 100% of its design in tact.

The $1 Liberty Gold Coin (Type 1) was among one of the first one-dollar coins produced in 90.0% pure by the United States. Over 150 years old, the coins are still available to collectors in limited quantities today and are among one of the most sought out designs in the pre-1933 gold coin category. The design featured on each $1 Liberty Gold Coin was created by famous US Mint engravor James B Longacre who was also responsible for several other US Mint coins during this period.

On the obverse of the Type 1 $1 Liberty Gold Coin is the profile image of Lady Liberty. In the depiction, Liberty is show wearing a crown with the inscription “LIBERTY.” Surrounding her are 13 stars representing the original 13 American colonies.

The reverse of each coin feature the country’s name “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” across the top. At the center of the design is the legal tender value of the coin which reads “1 Dollar” followed by the minting year. Circling these inscriptions along the bottom is a wreath.
