On the 50^th anniversary of the coin program in 2017, the South African Mint took a unique step by releasing the first-ever Silver Krugerrand coin. The Silver Krugerrand was released in that year as a Premium Uncirculated coin for the 50^th anniversary and a distinct Proof Silver Krugerrand. Since 2017, the Proof Silver Krugerrand continues as an annual issue.
