The British Silver Britannia uses one of the oldest coin designs in British history on the reverse face of a bullion coin. Calling upon British patriotism, the Britannia coin focuses its design on an image that has been around for more than 300 years on British coins. Each of the 2016 British Silver Britannia coins available right now is a near-perfect specimen in the opinion of the NGC. These coins still exhibit full, original mint luster, but may also feature a maximum of two minor detracting flaws found outside the primary focal areas of the coin’s surface.

Additionally, these coins have a unique textured finish on both sides. The finish gives each coin a one-of-a-kind visual appeal that is similar to the look of hammered copper, with multiple ripples and grooves across the obverse and reverse sides.

On the reverse of the British Silver Britannia is the image of Britannia standing along the south coast of the United Kingdom, looking out of the English Channel with a cautious eye. Her right hand holds a trident, symbolic of her ability to control the seas, while her left clutches a defensive shield that bears the Union Jack logo, the official flag of the United Kingdom.

The obverse side of the 2016 British Silver Britannia has a new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. For the first time since 1998, the image of Her Majesty has been updated to reflect her current age on the throne. Created by Jody Clark, who is just 33 years old, this image debuted in July 2015 and will now be the standard portrait on the obverse of all British coins.
