Struck by the US Mint for the first time in 2006, the popularity of this burnished coin is on the rise thanks to its unique appearance. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase one of these hard-to-find coins from JM Bullion.

American Silver Eagle coins were first introduced in 1986, but it was not until 20 years later that the United States Mint would add a truly unique coin to the series. All Silver Eagle coins are available in just a 1 oz weight, but the Burnished American Silver Eagle adds a remarkable finish and design to the coin series. The burnished coins were originally produced between 2006 and 2008 before a two-year hiatus. The coins have been struck each year since 2011.

Burnished American Silver Eagles are produced using a special process at the US Mint. Rather than using a burnished die and standard blanks (planchets), the US Mint uses burnished blanks and a standard die cast of the American Silver Eagle. Each blank is hand loaded into the coining presses at the West Point Mint.

Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty image, first used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar between 1916 and 1947, is featured on the obverse. John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle is depicted on the reverse side of each coin. These designs have been used on every American Silver Eagle since 1986 without changes or alterations.

The United States Mint is one of the oldest minting facilities in the Western Hemisphere, having been founded in 1792 by an act of Congress.
