2015 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coin (BU)

The Mexican Gold Libertad coin is the direct descendent of the gold Centenario coin from the Mexican Mint. More than three decades after the mint ceased producing Centenario coins, the Mexican Libertad was introduced as the official sovereign coin of Mexico. Today, the 2015 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertad coin is available from JM Bullion in BU condition.

Mexican Libertad coins were introduced in 1981 and 1982 in gold and silver, respectively. The original Mexican Gold Libertad had the same design features used on the Centenario coin by the Mexican Mint from 1921 to 1972. In 2000, the Mexican Mint modernized its images of the coat of arms and the statue of Winged Victory.

Mexican Gold Libertad coins were produced in 1981 for the first time, but discontinued twice. The first time was from 1982 until 1991, when the coin was introduced again in a 1 oz weight and four fractional weights. From 1995 to 1999 the coins were again discontinued, with a one-year production in 2000 followed by another halt in 2001.

Since 2002, the Mexican Gold Libertad has been produced in a bullion version with a 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coin available. The 2015 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertad available in this listing today is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, indicating a coin with no signs of wear and tear, but one that may have breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks.

On the reverse side is the modern coat of arms for the nation of Mexico in the middle, surrounded along the outer rim with 10 historic versions of the national emblem. Immediately surrounding the coat of arms is the engraving “Estados Unidos Mexicanos.”

The obverse bears the statue of the Angel of Independence. A likeness of this image appears on the Winged Victory statue in the center of Mexico City, where it was erected in 1921 as part of the nation’s centennial independence celebrations.
