The coin’s reverse was designed by Peter Trusler and depicts the prehistoric animal in front of a naturally colorized background. Above the animal’s head is an inscription which reads “Diprotodon.” Beneath the central image are the purity and weight inscriptions. The coin’s obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II and features inscriptions around the outer edges which read “Elizabeth II”, “Australia”, and “2014.” The $1 AUD face value is also listed on the obverse.
