10 oz Asahi Silver Bar (Serial Numbers)

With silver prices still at relative highs for the modern world, silver precious metal products remain as popular as ever. Asahi Refining is the latest to enter the market, and now its 10 oz Asahi Refining Silver Bars have arrived for purchase with JM Bullion.

Asahi Refining made a shocking move to purchase the Johnson Matthey precious metal refining operations in North America in late 2014. In a deal announced in December 2014, and effective March 2015, Tokyo-based Asahi paid roughly $162 million (USD) to purchase three facilities from Johnson Matthey.

After more than 150 years in the industry, the British multinational corporation sold its refineries in Salt Lake City, Utah and Brampton, Ontario, Canada to Asahi. The deal also provided Asahi with a support facility in St. Catharines, Canada. The first of the bars released by Asahi were 100 oz and 1 Kilo bars, and now the more popular weights are available. On the reverse, you’ll find the Asahi Refining logo at the top of the bar, complete with the bar’s purity in the center of the logo. At the bottom of the bar is the individual serial number that identifies this bar as one of the first 1,000 produced in this weight range by Asahi.

After purchasing Johnson Matthey’s operations, Asahi struggled to release a diverse lineup immediately. The global demand for silver cramped supplies, and Asahi was forced to delay the release of many of its planned products.
