Fortuna was the name given to the ancient Roman goddess of fortune. Often depicted wearing a veil or blindfold, Fortuna’s role in Roman life extended beyond mythology and into early Roman religions, where she was viewed as a personification of luck. The luck she would bring believers was not guaranteed to be good luck, as some were cursed with bad luck.
